The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania community is mourning the loss of a beloved local icon, DJ Boognasty, who passed away on February 2 at approximately 6:20 p.m. after a brief but devastating battle with ALS. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of family, friends, and countless people whose lives were touched by his music, energy, and unwavering positivity.
The news of his passing was shared by his son, Damon, who courageously opened up about his father’s final months and the remarkable strength he displayed throughout his illness. What began as subtle difficulty walking in August quickly became a frightening and confusing journey, as DJ Boognasty spent months visiting doctors in search of answers. Despite the uncertainty, he faced each step with resilience and determination, refusing to let fear define his spirit.
By late October and November, his condition worsened, and he required the use of a wheelchair. After undergoing numerous MRIs and extensive medical testing, doctors ruled out other possible conditions and referred him to an ALS clinic. On January 27, the family received the official diagnosis of ALS—a moment that brought clarity, but also a heartbreaking reality that no family is ever prepared to face.
During that same appointment, doctors discovered that his oxygen levels were dangerously low and advised immediate hospitalization. Wanting to avoid being alone and anxious during transport, he chose to be driven to the emergency room by his family instead of taking an ambulance. Tragically, upon arrival, he passed away in the car. After extensive CPR efforts, he was briefly revived, offering a moment of hope amid the chaos and fear.
However, the prolonged lack of oxygen caused severe brain damage, and he fell into a coma. In accordance with his clearly stated wishes—to never live with severe disabilities or prolonged suffering—the family made the profoundly difficult decision to remove life support. Surrounded by loved ones, DJ Boognasty passed peacefully, held in the presence of those who loved him most.
In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated, and no traditional funeral service will be held. Instead, his family plans to host a celebration of life in the future—one that reflects who he truly was: joyful, vibrant, and deeply connected to the people around him. It will be a time to remember the music he shared, the smiles he sparked, and the community he helped build through sound and soul.
DJ Boognasty was more than a disc jockey—he was a force of connection. Known for his infectious positive energy and his ability to bring people together, he had a gift for turning moments into memories.
