ROSS COUNTY, OH — Huntington Local School District went into a modified lockdown Thursday morning after the Ross County Sheriff’s Office received another threat directed at the school. Authorities notified the district at approximately 7:20 a.m., just as students were beginning to enter the building.
District officials emphasized that the safety and well-being of students and staff remain their top priority. “We remain vigilant and believe it is important for our students to be in the classroom,” the district said in a statement. “We understand the anxiety this situation may cause for students, staff, and families, and we are working closely with law enforcement to identify the source of these threats.”
The building had been thoroughly checked the previous evening and was re-inspected early Thursday morning. Officials confirmed that no unauthorized individuals had entered the school overnight, and all security measures were fully operational before students arrived.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are present on campus to ensure a secure environment throughout the day. Homeland Security has deployed a SkyWatch Tower to monitor activity from above, while the FBI is working to obtain warrants to trace the origin of the phone calls that prompted the lockdown.
School administrators say that the precautions in place, combined with law enforcement oversight, allow students to attend classes safely. “Based on the precautionary measures in place and the guidance of law enforcement, we are confident in our ability to safely proceed with school today,” the district stated.
This marks another instance in a series of threats that Huntington Local School has had to respond to in recent weeks. The district has emphasized its commitment to maintaining normal school operations while cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the source of these incidents.
Students, staff, and families have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Officials continue to work closely with the sheriff’s office, Homeland Security, and the FBI to resolve the situation and prevent further threats.
